The six students from Hinchingbrooke were warmly received by the course leader Mary Macdonald Hockley and the larger group of students from Saffron Walden County High School. After the introduction, they were separated and spent the remainder of the day in mixed groups where they were encouraged to consider what they had to offer employers and the best way to present their achievements. The session on how to prepare for interview was helpful, from researching the company, the competition and how to write a CV and covering letter or application form.
All of the Hinchingbrooke students seemed to get a lot out of the day, they are now considering their achievements so far and setting measurable and timed targets. The course was well delivered, with Mary being an enthusiastic and encouraging leader. I was impressed by the fact that she used her lunch break to read through each student’s work book to comment on what they had included and add her own comments. She has promised to send more information on how the students can proceed to gain a CMI qualification.
