Hinchingbrooke School

Week B Commencing 2nd July 2018

Message of the Week

Welcome to week 11 of the summer term.  Last week, there was much excitement in the sporting world – not only the excitement of England getting through to the last eight in the World Cup, but here at Hinchingbrooke, we had two records broken on Sports Day, plus a masterclass by an England player.

On Wednesday, over fifty lucky Netball Academy players, from year 7 to year 10, had a unique opportunity to learn from Sasha Corbin, England netball star.  I’m not sure who was more of a fan: the girls, or Mrs Pittock, who helps to run the Netball team with Mrs Stevens.

On Thursday, despite the incredible heat, there were some amazing demonstrations of athleticism and determination in Sports Day.  We had two new events – archery and bean bag - and some impressive new records too:

100m -   D.Miller Y10 (Montagu) 11.00secs

300m -   J.Isaac Y7 (Montagu) 50.94secs;

C.Watson Y9 (Wylton) 49.00secs

3000m - I.Wilkins Y9 (Pepys) 11.11mins; P.O'Driscoll Y10 (Wylton) 16.20mins

Vortex boys - N.St John Y7 (Wylton) 38.95m; K.Deans Y8 (Montagu) 67.83m; G.Anderson Y9 (Pepys) 51.90m; B.Sheldrake Y10 (Pepys) 51.00m.  Girls - S.Bailey-Griffiths Y8 (Vesey) 34.40m; O.Thornton Y9 (Wylton) 31.09m; H.Dawe Y10 (Pepys) 22.22m.

Triple Jump – H.Thoday Y8 (Cromwell) 7.06m; L.O'Dell Y9 (Wylton) 7.97m

Hurdles - R.Taylor Y9 (Wylton) 13.31 secs

Also last week, we celebrated the achievements of year 13

On the evening of 27th June we welcomed back our Y13 leavers and their friends and families for the Celebration Evening. At the event we were proud to award a range of prizes to students who had excelled in their subjects or in the service they have offered to the school. The event took place on the lawn of Hinchingbrooke House in the evening sunshine. Students, friends and family enjoyed a drinks reception, an A-level Art and DT exhibition and were entertained by a series of excellent musical performances. Well done to Year 13!

As one door closes, another one opens: last week, we said goodbye to year 11 and 13; this week, we welcome the students who will be joining us as year 7 in September.  It’s lovely to be part of their excitement as they begin their secondary school journey, spending Wednesday and Thursday getting to know their way around Hinchingbrooke School.

Our theme this week is staying calm, safe and purposeful.  It’s such an important theme – especially in this hot weather – that we are running with it for a second week.

Golden Antler Winners

Every week, the tutor groups with the highest number of 5s (for great attitudes to learning) are awarded a Golden Antler trophy.  Following the award of the trophy, the tutor arranges for a celebratory photograph to be taken.  It is then displayed around school.

Last week, the Lower School Golden Antlers winner was …

… 8W1, meaning that Wylton have the trophy this week.

And winner of the Middle School Golden Antlers was …

…9C2.   Again, Pepys giving way, this time to Cromwell.  Well done to both tutor groups!
