NHS Allied Health Professionals Open Day 2023
A large group of year 12 and 13 students attended the event at Hinchingbrooke Hospital
A brief description of the day, by Jessie (year 12)
We listened to a series of very interesting presentations from various AHP that informed us of a lot of information about their careers and how they got there. We got told the entry requirements and what the everyday jobs that they had to do were. We asked intriguing questions such as what the worst part of their job was and questions about whether certain qualifications would help more than others. My personal favourite presentation was the speech and language therapist, who talked about how they help and how and taught us about dysphagia, which is a swallowing problem and the ways they help with that, which was fascinating to hear about!!!
We went around the stalls trying and learning about various things such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy and we tried a protein shake for those who don't get enough from their diet; we also tried "thick water" (some of us gagged and none of us enjoyed it). We also took loads of fun photos!!!
